Waldorf education, grounded in a deep understanding of the growing human being, offers developmentally based, age-appropriate learning. Children’s abilities and ways of perceiving and addressing the world are different at different stages of their lives, and Waldorf education addresses the child’s needs at every age. Each child is embraced as a unique intellectual, spiritual, and physical being and a vital part of a caring community.
Our expanded Early Childhood program, including parent-child classes, is rich in lively imaginative play, story, art, music, and movement, all in a loving community of friendship, joy, and learning.
In the elementary grades and high school, the curriculum integrates strong academics with practical, experiential, and artistic work in a rich multicultural setting. An artistic approach to learning permeates the curriculum. It infuses core academics such as mathematics, the humanities, science, and the foreign languages (Spanish and Japanese) that are taught from first grade. Music, movement, Hawaiian studies, drama, and fine and applied arts are taught as separate subjects by specialty teachers. At every age and in every class, observation, hands-on experience, and reflection are vital components of learning.

Contributing to both the present and future, developing a strong moral compass, and making a difference in something larger than oneself are emphasized in school work, community service and service learning, artistic ventures, foreign exchange, and in interscholastic activities in academics, the arts, and competitive sports.
Applicants are considered in terms of space availability, classroom dynamics, and developmental readiness. The admissions procedure involves three steps:
Application: Please complete the appropriate application form and return it to the school together with the $50 nonrefundable application fee, a recent photo of your child (appreciated but not required), and your child’s most recent school report (if applicable).
Reference Report: If your child is now or has ever been in school, a teacher reference is required prior to your child’s interview. Please read and follow the directions for parents or guardians on the report and then have your child’s teacher complete the
Teacher Reference Report and forward it directly to the school office.
Interview: Applicants and parents will participate in group and/or individual interviews. Prior to the interview, the school must have received all required materials – the application, application fee, and school report and teacher reference (if applicable). Interviews are conducted during March and acceptance letters are sent by mid-April. Additional assessments are conducted throughout the year if spaces are available. For closed classes, applications are held through the school year and interviews are arranged if spaces become available.
