
Honolulu Waldorf School is governed jointly by its Board of Trustees and College of Teachers. Day-to-day operation is entrusted to the Administrative Staff with each faculty member responsible for an aspect of administration. This structure is in place first and foremost to allow the education of the children in Hawaii to flourish.
College of Teachers
The College of Teachers is the group of teachers from within the faculty and administrative staff that has made a long-term commitment to the principles of Waldorf education and Honolulu Waldorf School, and is responsible for the health, development and vision of the school. The College meets regularly to address educational, philosophical, and practical matters affecting the organization and the healthy operation of the school. This leadership group makes decisions regarding curriculum development, students accepted in to the school, and the hiring, mentoring, evaluation and, when necessary, dismissal of teachers.
The responsibility of the College is to deepen its understanding of Waldorf education and of the developing child and to align the structure of the school with its spiritual foundation.
Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the legal entity of the school and is responsible for all financial and legal matters. It oversees the corporate functioning of the school. The Board consists of parents, teachers, and community members who are committed to the school’s mission and vision. The Board works closely with the College of Teachers to set long range goals for the school.
Administrative staff
Administrative staff members function in vital roles of support for the teaching staff, parents, the College of Teachers and Board of Trustees. Administrators see to the daily running of the school so that the students can learn, teachers can teach, and parents and Board members can be assured that the school is functioning well. You can see the administrative staff daily at each campus.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee is charged with day-to-day coordination of school operations, including oversight of College/Faculty mandate activity, agenda planning for College meetings and agenda planning for Department meetings. The purpose of this leadership group is to ensure healthy communication between each department, all faculty members and the parent community.
