Supporting The Honolulu Waldorf School: Celebrating 50 Years of Education for a Better World
The most powerful collaboration in independent schools is the crucial alliance between parents and schools, working together for the good of their children. This is a mutual commitment and requires everyone to contribute in whatever ways and measures they can. Independent schools depend on the generosity of parents and friends to volunteer time and expertise, to participate in school life, and to support us financially.

At Honolulu Waldorf School all adults in our community share a responsibility for maintaining the excellence of its programs. Like all independent schools, Honolulu Waldorf School relies on voluntary contributions to meet its operating budget and fund strategic initiatives. Such gifts are necessary because tuition gives your child access to more than you are paying for. At Honolulu Waldorf School, tuition covers about 80 percent of the cost of educating your child. In a way, every student at our school receives financial support. That is why schools need annual funds, endowments, financial aid programs, and capital drives.

In the same way, we are committed to teaching children the importance of social responsibility. Our youngest students learn quickly that being part of a classroom community means sharing the responsibility for keeping materials organized, watering plants, and feeding animals. As students get older, they become involved in giving service to the whole school. Eventually, they engage in community service and/or fundraising projects that address local or global issues they have studied. Through these activities, Honolulu Waldorf School students learn that the things they value don’t “just happen,” but in fact require ongoing support. They also experience the joy that comes from taking action in accord with one’s values.

Ongoing and generous support from parents, faculty, staff, grandparents, former families, alumni and others helps us to maintain what makes a Honolulu Waldorf School education special.
